In the present day, environmental challenges are continuing to increase at alarming rates and the urgency to address sustainability in this regard has become impossible to ignore. Recent reports published by The Asian Development Research Institute depicts how almost 70% of India’s surface water is polluted due to industrialization and other human activities. This, along with the country’s existing struggle with inadequate waste management and deforestation are not only harming the environment but also disproportionately affecting more vulnerable populations, particularly children from within underserved communities.
Research shows that fostering habits, more specifically those related to environmental education and sustainability in childhood can have a lasting impact, yet, there remains a significant gap in the accessibility and affordance of such tools. In addition to this, Indian corporations too invest in a substantially lower number of sustainable initiatives as compared to their global counterparts which severely reduces attempts at reducing the nation’s ecological footprint.
Having recognized these pressing issues, The Indian Sustainability Society (ISS) was founded to help bridge the gap between grassroot-level awareness and corporate social responsibility. By combining advocacy with practical involvement, ISS seeks to empower both communities and businesses in embracing sustainability for a cleaner, greener future.
